Capacity Check, UK
02. September 2009
A method for appraising urban design skills has won a key RTPI accolade.
Capacitycheck, launched by the Urban Design Alliance, has been selected as the RTPI urban design network’s project of the year.
The appraisal assesses the present skills, awareness and understanding of an
individual or organisation before deciding what capacity they require.
It supports training, education and learning on the job for councillors, design
champions, communities, clients and a wide range of built environment professionals.
Capacitycheck’s uses include benchmarking skills, devising training programmes,
informing a local authority’s planning policy and guidance, drafting job descriptions
and person specifications, and drawing up the brief for an urban design project.
Pilot projects have taken place at Peterborough City Council, Nottingham City
Council and Highland Council.
