Masterplan Framework for Fonnesområdet, Adjacent to Mongstad refinery
Feleti Design Consultants and the local authority are the leading multi disciplinary team preparing the master plan framework for the redevelopment of new housing and community projects within the described Fonnes area, adjacent to Mongstad refinery.
The site is part of an area which is a major economic driver for the region,
and Norway. Feletis masterplan framework brief is to rationalise the existing
facilities and developments present in the area making more intensive use of the
Fonnes area while allowing for new building opportunities to be explored.
In addition, the masterplan framework will develop a large area of the site to
complement the sites which is used as farmland. The resulting masterplan framework
creates a revitalised area with new homes which foster a sustainable settlement
for the future. The development will be accompanied by significant community infrastructure.
The process of the masterplan framework has paid careful regard to the area´s
location and topography, taking in consideration existing sites and natural resources
as key-points for further development. Key urban design principles underpin the
proposals in terms of:
- The design approach; a compact residential development defined through the new
strategic housing corridor.
- A series of strategic infrastructure connecting the area and adjacent areas with
higher accuracy, and moreover increase accessibility from the whole region.
- Transforming fragmented site-areas into denser sites with improved connectivity.
- A strategic program for how to be able to build close to the waterfront.
