A Place for Creativity
- Inspiring urban change: Innovative approches to place design & development
15th July 2010 - Milton Keynes Gallery, Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes
A key factor in achieving economic and civil wellbeing is unlocking creativity in placemaking, and developing urban environments that are both inspiring and interesting.
But how should artists and other creative people be involved in the challenge
of urban design? What kinds of inputs and opportunities are there? Can it be more than just a stylised ‘art element’ in the urban fabric, and extended
to ongoing collaborative and creative injections into design, identity, activity
and sense of place?
This 3rd annual conference on art and urban design, organised by RUDI in partnership
with Milton Keynes Gallery, will consider the role of artists and the creative
community in making better places, collaborative working practices, ways of engaging
local communities in the creation of inspiring and interesting places, and responses
to current economic pressures.
Speakers include:
Will Cousins, Architect, Urban Designer & Director, David Lock Associates
Michael Stanley, Director, Modern Art Oxford
Richard Russell , Director, Strategic Partnerships, Arts Council England
Liza Fior, Director, MUF Architects & Artists
Michael Pinsky, Artist
