CONFERENCE
program content
outline

The conference will gather some of the best keynotes in the world and share knowledge and experience about waterfront development projects. The program outline is structured into three different sections:

  • introduction session
  • nordic session
  • international session

whereas a summary and comparison with a closing debate will be followed on day two.

The introduction section will be opened by City of Stavanger as the city is the host for the WFS 2010. Followed by the opening, the (synˇopˇsis) hopes that the Minister of Environment will find the event of such importance that he will honor the synopsis with his presence by doing the introduction about the pilot projects and Future Cities program. Following will be a presentation done over arching the six cities involved in the pilot projects where a summary will be given about their project experiences and what strategy the cities are shaping for the future.

The Nordic session will introduce selected projects from the cities it concerns and of high relevance to the norwegian setting, and delegates will draw on their experiences and strategies related to the concept of being a waterfront city. The International session will be very similar, however taken into a higher level of complexity and scale.

Each of the sessions will be bridged by Project for Public Spaces providing brief summaries and comparisons between the projects, cities, regions, countries which aims to build up the fundamentals towards day two summary and panel debates.

The intention is to focus on waterfront projects and give a broad picture about how cities regardless nations manages these complex issues - also in close relations in how it integrates the issues related to climate and energy reduction.

Conference host will be Director Rob Cowan of the UK based Urban Design Skills.
