INFORMATION

The Waterfront Synopsis 2010 is set to 15th - 17th September, however, there will be an optional program for early arrivers on the 14th which could be a great first meeting with City of Stavanger for those who has not been there before. The WFS2010 will be held at Hotel Clarion Stavanger.

CONFERENCE 15th - 16th
“Waterfront Synopsis” is an international gathering around the topic of “Placemaking and Sustainability” on waterfronts. The goal of the Synopsis is to bring the forces of environmentalism, climate change and sustainability together with the ideas of community, livability, health, increased focus on sustainable architecture and Placemaking. There are many new ways of realizing a different future as the impact of “Place” and “Placemaking” take hold in cities around the world.

For more and more people, Placemaking is being viewed as a transformative agenda for creating changes in how government is structured, how communities are engaged, how new processes around civic engagement are developed, and how professionals can be repositioned as leaders in these important times.

Optional events*

Fred Kent, President - Project for Public Spaces
Kathy Madden, President - Project for Public Spaces
Lise Muurholm Storås, Chief Architect - City of Stavanger

PLACEMAKING ACADEMY AGENDA 16th - 17th
The Academy will be an extension of the 2-day Conference, bringing together interested professionals and students for an intensive 1 ½ day hands-on PPS training program based around the concept of “Placemaking and Waterfronts.”

Participants will become aware of waterfront issues and opportunities, understand how people use public spaces, learn how to evaluate a place based on PPS’ Place Evaluation Game and how to apply the Principles of Placemaking in their own projects. Participants will receive a high quality introduction to Placemaking through a real case study, as well as participate in developing recommendations for the site.  The result of each of the groups will be summed up in a final report and handed to City of Stavanger as a preliminary platform for further strategical work.
