NUDA Summer School

The Summer School 2008 was a great success. As a pilot project the event was extremely well received by all participants.

The City of Bergen was a natural choice as a location for the first summer school. Its complex planning history, urban fabric, regenerated waterfronts and several iconic spaces and places is a rich venue for exploring new ideas and case studies.

The first summer school certainly lived up to its promise as an intensive and fast-paced workshop based education, with delegates out-and-about on day one exploring the city and gathering their thoughts about what make a place good or bad based on the pre-limenary keynote lectures.

On day two delegates began a more detailed design approach towards the basis from the previous day with analysis and site visit. Teams then began to work through the design process of Nedre Korsallmenning and Sandviken Torg with the insight and follow up by the expert sessions and best practice speakers including Lars Gemzře, Rob Cowan, Aga Skorupka and Greg Donovan who explored the role of design at different stages in the development process.

The final day was a highly intensive travel through new knowledge, discussions, design schemes, new issues discovered and high paste feedback. The results was high level design proposals seen in relation to the brief time available. A well done execution by all groups and participants!

This brief is not fair as a description of the pace and vibrant environment of the summer school, and should only be experienced first hand.

Finally, a big thanks and hat off to the team delivering tireless work and creativity making the school so stimulating, inspiring and fun.
