Georgia Institute of Technology (M.Arch 1968), Harvard University (M.Arch 1970).
Architect, Kallmann & McKinnell, Boston, 1970-72. Assoc. Prof. in Urban Design,
Oslo School of Architecture, 1973-79. Head of Urban Renaissance Campaign in Norway
and practice as architect 1980-82. From 1983, founder and Exec. Dir., IN’BY, Institute
for Urban Development in Oslo. Major commissions in urban planning in Oslo and
other cities. Former editor, architectural journal 'Byggekunst' and newspaper
critic in 'Dagbladet'. Author of 'The New Oslo', 1987, 'På ville veier', 1993,
‘Gode byrom’, 1998, ‘Til stede’, 2003. 1991-1992, Special Advisor to the Minister
of Culture on urban planning, architecture and design. 1993-2002, Director of
Norsk Form, Center for Design, Architecture and the Built Environment, in Oslo.
Chairman, The National Museum, 1989-97. President of the international design
organization, ICSID, 2001-2003. Chairman, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, 2002-,
Rector from 2003.
