Aim

The Nordic Urban Design Association will aim high and initiate activities, projects, debates, conferences, seminars, education programmes and much more, which will:

I. Promote and establish Urban Design as a profession within the Nordic countries.

II. Attract members to NUDA throughout the Nordic countries.

III. Establish a solid organisational platform, which will sustain all members common professional growth and interest, and contribute to establish a high Nordic professional level and understanding for urban design.

IV. Become a central body of decision makings and consultancy within future governmental city- and regional planning, where NUDA can contribute with necessary competence as professional guidance, consultancy, education and in the best way possible promote the necessity of broader mind thinking within city- and regional planning.

V. Establish the clear role and competence of an urban designer, and clearly differentiate the differences between the scope of urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and urbanism, though at the same time stress the importance of professional collaborations.

VI. Set Urban Design on the forefront within the Nordic countries and stress its importance as a tool for future city development. To achieve such a task, collaboration with other similar international organisations as Urban Design Group (UDG) and others is essential to prove its necessity as well as to be regarded as a serious organisation with clear plans and visions for the future. At the same time local and international sponsors and collaboratives have to be achieved and maintained as important alliances.

VII. Within 2011 have established NUDA to become a research centre within issues related to urban design, place making and urban development.

VIII. Focus on the establishment and necessity of urban design education throughout the Nordic countries.
