Lars Gemzře

Associate Partner in Gehl Architects
Lars Gemzře is a senior consultant and associate partner at Gehl Architects. He has been teaching and making research at the School of Architecture in Copenhagen
since 1970s and has been a senior lecturer of Urban Design at the Centre for Public
Space Research at the School of Architecture in Copenhagen until the end of 2006.
International teaching experience includes universities in New York, Montréal,
Rouen, Hanover, Montevideo and Bogotá, and he has lectured at conferences and
schools of architecture in the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Colombia, Thailand,
U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Czech
Republic, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Estonia and Scandinavia. Additionally
Lars Gemzře has been a senior lecturer at DIS, Denmark’s international Study Program,
a university level exchange program for international students studying in Copenhagen.
Experience includes work as a public space consultant for local authorities, private
trusts, and independent developers. Recently Lars has been actively consulting TATE Modern in London, private developers
in Dublin and Cork, Ireland, and local authorities in Melbourne, Australia and
in Amman, Jordan as well as for Danish towns. Lars has served as a competition jury member for large-scale public realm projects
in Denmark.
Lars Gemzře has in co-operation with Jan Gehl, published Public Spaces Public
Life, New City Spaces and New City Life. All books have been well received worldwide
as a valuable contribution to an ongoing discussion about city development.
