NUDA definition

NUDA is committed to support various approaches to urban design. It is in the
nature of NUDAs philosophy that urban design should be thought of as a profession
and as a way of thinking.
For some people, urban design is the name they give to their profession, as specialists
in the art of placemaking. Urban design is unlike many other professions, though,
as one of its defining characteristics is that it is a collaborative process involving
a range of disciplines. For others, urban
design is a movement that provides the context of their work as architects, planners,
highway engineers, landscape architects, politicians and in many other roles,
even though they may not choose ‘urban designer’ as their professional label.
NUDA is committed to supporting both of these approaches to urban design. For
those who see themselves as professional urban designers, NUDA will help develop
their distinctive role in the processes of planning, design and development. For
those who are committed to urban design in other ways, NUDA will help to promote
knowledge and understanding as widely as possible. Everyone who has an interest
in placemaking should be able to contribute to and benefit from NUDA’s efforts
in developing new ideas and networks, promoting good practice, raising standards
and exchanging experience.
