The first summit 2012
The NUDA Student Summit 2012 engages in the future education of Urban Design
professionals through the initiation of the very first NUDA Student Summit, this
year held at University of Stavanger in Stavanger, Norway.
The Annual NUDA Student Summit will be the new forum for knowledge exchange,
think-tank for creative daredevils, conceptualizing themes and contents, dynamic
workshops, realistic case studies, networking, student exhibition and cultural
exchange. Students from Urban Design, architecture, planning, design, landscape,
geography, anthropology, transport and in general involved with the built environment
will be encouraged to attend this summit where some of the leading majorities
within Urban Design, architecture, landscape design, planning and conceptual thinking
will be keynoting.
The summit aims to establish a fundamental understanding for the big picture
and how all professional aspects are crucial to acknowledge and take into consideration
in the processing and management of a complex urban context. In collaboration
with universities across the Nordic countries educating Urban Design, the Summit
content will be relevant to each of the universities curriculum. The Summit will
be an excellent gathering point for students who want to network, increase their
academic and practical skills, display their work and exchange knowledge with
other students and student-organizations from abroad. The highlight of the Summit
is the Best Students Project Exhibition (BSPE). All of the chosen projects will
later be presented in the NUDA Book launched in December 2012.
Urban Design education within the Nordic region is a well hidden resource for
knowledge and competence. Unlike international Urban Design education the nordic
universities have not been able to promote extensively the potentials of Urban
Design knowledge and competence towards the private and public sector. Educated
Urban Designers from universities such as Aalborg University, KTH, Chalmers, Lund
University, Stavanger University end up in various work positions without being
able to use their Urban Design label. With the establishment of NUDA Student Association
in 2013, The NUDA Student Summit will be the annual flagship and show window event
for the students with the purpose of getting the “word” about Urban Design and
their competence out there.

event!
