Urban Design students

To “grow” knowledge, there is a need to be part of a wider network where new ideas and perspectives are nurtured and channeled into constructive discussions. NUDA is not a believer of the concept where individual thoughts are the only way to greatness. The collaborative strengths of multiple minds and knowledge is the only way to reach the expansion of great visions and perspectives giving Urban Design the new direction to search towards innovative ideas, sustainable methods and distinctiveness.

JUST LIKE CATS
It has been said that urban designers are like cats. Put a load of them in a room and they all do their own thing. Another interpretation is that Urban Design is a new religion and the result of any belief system is that it creates sects who have different ideas. One of the issues Urban Design struggles with is the issue of being to unclear as a profession. This makes it impossible to explain Urban Design in less than half a page, which again makes it difficult for those who are not familiar with the broad scope of competence that Urban Design as a collective unit actually possess, to understand and use Urban Design skills. One could argue that the strategic approach NUDA is taking might be more confusing, but through the idea of concretizing four specific areas of interest and the four sub areas combined with research and advice, creates a hybrid that cuts clear all confusion about what Urban Design is and should be, and takes a new turn. To be able to fit this program and make it clear and focused NUDA is depending on the global network of knowledge providing the best ideas and experiences from all over the world. It will then be NUDAs mission to abstract these ideas and use the best to stake out the clear role of Urban Design especially relevant to the Nordic setting. At current stage the NUDA network covers the whole Nordic region, UK, Scotland, Poland, Romania, USA, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Baltic regions and France, and NUDA will expand strategically through new collaborative partnerships, projects and research programs. The power of networks are so evident that avoiding possibilities to fuse ideas with other organizations and professions could result a silent death to the essence of Urban Design as how it was intended to bridge a gap between architecture and planning.

URBAN DESIGN STUDENTS
Still Urban Design is considered a new profession though it roots back centuries in concept and content. Being an Urban Design student is sometimes a walk in complexity. Very often we hear that "What can I do when I am finished? Where do I fit in with my competence?" when it comes from Nordic based UD Students. Through NUDA we can together make it clear. The possibilities are huge and different from the architects and planners. The diversity UD Students are met with at their universities prepares them for great things. Urban Design is a way of thinking more than a way of doing and possess a professional variety other professions have difficulties to match.

We hope that YOU as student and potential employer see the qualities UD students possess. We will surely do our best to promote it!
