outline
The NUDA Academy is the flagship education initiative of the NUDA Academy Program.
The initiative is established for professionals working in
- urban design
- landscape architecture
- planning and architecture
- property development
- entrepreneurs and students
- placemaking
It is also established to provide students necessary training, knowledge and
options for alternative coursework. The academy brings together those who hold
leading roles in developing and planning our cities, towns and communities for
an intensive 2 days hands-on training program with real case studies. Keynote
speaks and best practice sessions features urban design, placemaking and planning
skills from the experience of international and Nordic practitioners.
The Waterfront (syn·op·sis) NUDA and PPS Academy is tailored to accommodate the
issues at hand in Stavanger, and how to manage a sustainable connection between
the city centre fabric and the waterfront. The suggested case study is a trouble
area in need for help. The concern is how to use the specific site, how to turn
it around and make it attractive and how to connect the district better with the
waterfront.
The two day intensive workshop will draw on the previous experiences from the
conference, and the dynamics of placemaking and how to turn a place around will
be provided by Project for Public Spaces. The intention behind the academy is
to deliver a high quality introduction to placemaking through a real case, but
also give the new suggestions a highly valued perspective by the mixed international
participants. The result of each of the groups will be summed up in a final report
and handed to City of Stavanger as a preliminary platform for further strategical
work.
