Director of Urban Design Skills, UK

Rob Cowan is a director for the training provider Urban Design Skills. He is the author of The Dictionary of Urbanism, acclaimed as the definitive reference on planning, urban design and regeneration.

He is editor of Context, the journal of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation; editor of the Urbanwords website (www.urbanwords.info); and the author of Re:urbanism (with Kelvin Campell), Urban Design Guidance, The Connected City, and The Cities Design Forgot. He originated the Placecheck method of urban design appraisal and the urban capacity framework Capacitycheck. His weekly cartoon has appeared in Planning for the past 20 years.
